🌿 Becoming a Certified BCD Dread Tech

Stepping into certification isn’t just about ticking boxes — it’s about embodying the craft.

At Black Cockatoo Dreadlocks, we honour dreadlocks as both skill and ceremony. Your certification represents integrity, confidence, and readiness to hold space for clients in a real and professional way.

To receive your Certification, become an official BCD Dread Tec, and be welcomed into our Website Directory, you are required to complete the following:

1. Complete All Online Course Content

Every module has been created with intention.

This means:

  • Watching all training videos in full

  • Practice Practice Preactice

  • Integrating the theory, technique, and professional standards taught

We don’t rush the foundations. Strong roots create strong dreads — and strong businesses.

Take your time. Absorb it. Practice along the way.

2. Attend the Live Workshop or Online Integration Calls

This is where learning becomes embodiment.

Whether you attend in-person or join us online, this component is essential. It allows you to:

  • Refine your technique

  • Ask questions

  • Receive real-time feedback

  • Deepen your understanding of sectioning, tension, flow and finish

This is also where we step into professional identity — not just “someone who can do dreads,” but someone who can confidently serve clients.

Your presence matters here.

3. Complete One Full Head of Documented Dreadlocks

Before certification, you must complete one full head of dreadlocks on a real client.

This ensures you can:

  • Section confidently

  • Maintain consistency across a full scalp

  • Manage timing, fatigue, and energy

  • Deliver a clean, intentional final result

Your submission must include:

  • Detailed session notes
(Hair type, density, section size chosen, method used, challenges faced, timing, and reflections.)

  • Clear before photos

  • Progress photos during the process

  • Clear final photos

  • Short video footage of your technique and completed dreadlocks

We are looking for skill, awareness, and professionalism — not perfection.

4. Complete One Paid Maintenance Session

Maintenance is where true technicians are revealed.

It requires:

  • Scalp awareness

  • Tension control

  • Repair understanding

  • Client communication

  • Clean, consistent root work

You must complete one paid maintenance session and submit:

  • Detailed session notes
(Growth amount, root method used, repairs if required, scalp condition, timing, client feedback.)

  • Clear before and after photos

  • Short video footage showing your maintenance technique

Charging for this session is important. It confirms you are stepping into professional readiness.

A Final Note

Certification with Black Cockatoo Dreadlocks means you are ready to:

  • Work independently

  • Uphold professional standards

  • Represent the BCD name with integrity

  • Care for clients’ hair and energy responsibly

When all requirements are completed and approved, you will receive:
